Ingredients
1 small to medium lauki, cut into small pieces 1 cup chana dal, washed 4 cups water 2 tbsp. canola oil/ butter 1 tbsp. finely chopped ginger 1 tsp. jeera 2 tej patta 4 green chillies, slit lengthwise 1 jalapeno, sliced lengthwise into 4 2 tsp. dhania powder 1/2 tsp red chilli powder 1/2 tsp. haldi powder 4 Roma tomatos, chopped fine 1/2 tsp garam masala Optional: 0.25 - 0.50 tsp. aamchur for garnish
Steps
Pressure cook chana dal and cut lauki with 4 cups water, salt, haldi, chopped ginger and sliced jalapeno After whistle (2 high whistles), turn to low and cook for 12 minutes Heat the oil and add the jeera and tej patta When jeera seeds splutter, add green chillies, slit lengthwise, and fry. Add the tomatos and stir-fry till the oil/butter separates Add the green chillis, dhania powder, chilli powder and mix well Add to the dal, mix well, bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Switch off and garnish with coriander leaves and garam masala. If you like, sprinkle and stir in aamchur to garnish. For 1.5 cups dal, use 5 cups water in pressure cooker
