Ingredients
1 cup dal (arhar, chana, moong) 5 cups water 1.5 tsp salt 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 1 1/2 tsp cumin seeds 2 dried red chilies 10-12 LeeLee green chilies - 4 heaped Tbsp chopped 3 heaped Tbsp ginger - chopped 1 medium (or 1.5 small ) red onion - 1.5 heaped cups chopped 2 heaped tsp Costco chopped garlic (or 3 heaped tsp chopped fresh garlic) 4 roma tomatoes - chopped Cilantro (corriander leaves)
Steps
Boil a) - d) in a pressure cooker. When the steam comes, lower heat to LO and cook for 2 (Arhar), 4-5 (Moong) or 9 (Channa) minutes. In 3-4 Tbsp oil, fry cumin seeds and dried red chilies. Add green chilies, ginger and fry well. Add onions and fry well. If adding fresh garlic add, at this time. If Costco garlic, add it and fry. Add tomatoes and fry. Garnish with cilantro. NOTE - Not quick and dirty - each item has to be fried well before adding the next.
