Geethu's Kitchen - Unni's Tadka Three Dal

Ingredients

  1. one Onion Chopped
  2. 3 dried red chillies
  3. 3 tomato Cans

  4. 1 cup Cilantro stems chopped
  5. 3 Green Chillies
  6. 5 Cloves Garlic
  7. 1/2 cup Ginger chopped
  8. 5 Curry Patta

  9. One Big Pot
  10. Pre-soak dals 30 minutes
  11. 1 cup Toor Dal
  12. 1 cup Masoor Dal
  13. 1 cup Chana Dal

  14. One medium Pot
  15. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  16. 1/2 cup chopped Ginger
  17. 5 cloves garlic
  18. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  19. 3 green chillies

  20. One small Pot
  21. 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  22. 1 teaspoon chilly powder
  23. 1 teaspoon garam masala
  24. 1 tablespoon Kasuri methi

  25. 1 Tsp Salt

  26. For Tadka
  27. Oil
  28. 2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  29. 1 teaspoon Asafoetida/ Hing
  30. 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  31. 1 cup Cilantro stems chopped
  32. 1 teaspoon Kashmiri chilly powder
  33. 2 dried red chillies
  34. 2 tablespoon cilantro



Method:

  1. To make the Dal
  2. Pre-soak dals 30 minutes
  3. Mix all the 3 dals (tur dal, masoor dal and chana dal) together
  4. and rinse it well under running water.
  5. Turn on the Instant Pot in saute mode.
  6. Add Oil.
  7. add cumin seeds, chopped ginger , garlic, green chillies and turmeric powder.
  8. Saute for 30 seconds,
  9. Then add the onions and dried red chillies.
  10. Saute till the onions turn translucent.
  11. Add the tomatoes along with salt.
  12. Continue to saute till the tomatoes turn soft.
  13. Now add the spices like chilly powder, coriander powder, garam masala, dal tadka masala, garam masala and crushed Kasuri methi.
  14. Mix and cook for 30 seconds.
  15. Add the rinsed lentils. Mix.
  16. Finally add 5 cups water.
  17. Hit cancel.
  18. Close the lid .
  19. Cook it for 10 minutes .
  20. Open the lid and stir in the lemon juice and cilantro.
  21. Add a cup of boiling water if the Dal is very thick.
  22. Using the ladle, mash the lentils lightly.

  23. For Tadka
  24. Temper Mustard Seeds
  25. Add hing
  26. add cumin seeds,
  27. then add Hing, dried red chillies, chopped cilantro stems, cilantro and Kashmiri chilly powder.
  28. Fry for 10 seconds.
