Geethu's Kitchen - Unni's Kaala Chana
Ingredients
- 3 cups Black Chana - soak overnight in 6 cups of water + 3 tsp salt
- One Small Bowl
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tsp Chilli powder
- 2 tsp Salt
- One medium small bowl
- 3 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
- 3 tsp mustard seeds
- One medium small bowl
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1.5 tsp cumin powder
- 1.5 tsp dhania powder
- One Small Bowl
- 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
- One Large small bowl
- 9 long strands of curry leaves - chopped
- One Large Small Bowl
- 5 or 4 Jalapeno Chillies -Sliced Long
- One Steel Plate
- Two and Half Large Onions sliced long (sliced long - 2 x 2 x 2)
Method:
- Night Before
- 3 cups black chana - soak overnight in 6 cups of water + 3 tsp salt
- Early Morning (6 AM)
- Take overnight soaked Chana.
- Rinse it.
- Add Water to little more than level of Chana
- Instant Pot
- cook soaked chana
- Add turmeric and chili powders
- Pressure Cook on HIGH for 60 minutes
- Natural Release
- Take Large Frying Pan
- Heat 1.5 ladle oil
- and fry Cumin and Mustard seeds medium high
- Add Curry leaves and mix - HI
- Add Chillies and mix - HI
- Add Onions, mix well
- then fry well for 8 minutes on MED
- Add Salt, Cumin Powder and Dhania powders (Coriander) ,fry 3-4 minutes to mix well MED
- Add cooked Chana and mix well on HI,
- then Close Lid ,cook on LOW for 10 min
- Shut off heat and mix in Garam Masala and mix well
- keep covered for another 10 min
