Geethu's Kitchen - Geethu's Lauki Chana Dal
Ingredients
- 1 small to medium lauki, cut into small pieces
- 1 cup chana dal, washed
- 4 cups water
- 2 tbsp. canola oil/ butter
- 1 tbsp. finely chopped ginger
- 1 tsp. jeera
- 2 tej patta
- 4 green chillies, slit lengthwise
- 1 jalapeno, sliced lengthwise into 4
- 2 tsp. dhania powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp. haldi powder
- 4 Roma tomatos, chopped fine
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Optional: 0.25 - 0.50 tsp. aamchur for garnish
Method:
- Pressure cook chana dal and cut lauki with 4 cups water, salt, haldi, chopped ginger and sliced jalapeno
- After whistle (2 high whistles), turn to low and cook for 12 minutes
- Heat the oil and add the jeera and tej patta
- When jeera seeds splutter, add green chillies, slit lengthwise, and fry.
- Add the tomatos and stir-fry till the oil/butter separates
- Add the green chillis, dhania powder, chilli powder and mix well
- Add to the dal, mix well, bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Switch off and garnish with coriander leaves and garam masala.
- If you like, sprinkle and stir in aamchur to garnish.
- For 1.5 cups dal, use 5 cups water in pressure cooker
