Geethu's Kitchen - Geethu's Daal
Ingredients
- 1 cup dal (arhar, chana, moong)
- 5 cups water
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 dried red chilies
- 10-12 LeeLee green chilies - 4 heaped Tbsp chopped
- 3 heaped Tbsp ginger - chopped
- 1 medium (or 1.5 small ) red onion - 1.5 heaped cups chopped
- 2 heaped tsp Costco chopped garlic (or 3 heaped tsp chopped fresh garlic)
- 4 roma tomatoes - chopped
- Cilantro (corriander leaves)
Method:
- Boil a) - d) in a pressure cooker.
- When the steam comes, lower heat to LO and cook for 2 (Arhar), 4-5 (Moong) or 9 (Channa) minutes.
- In 3-4 Tbsp oil, fry cumin seeds and dried red chilies.
- Add green chilies, ginger and fry well.
- Add onions and fry well. If adding fresh garlic add, at this time.
- If Costco garlic, add it and fry.
- Add tomatoes and fry.
- Garnish with cilantro.
- NOTE - Not quick and dirty - each item has to be fried well before adding the next.
